Scholarly communication is the process through which research and other creative scholarly works are produced, evaluated, disseminated to the scholarly community, and preserved for future use. The Scholarship at UWindsor institutional repository is intended to host, preserve and provide access to the scholarly works of researchers on our campus. Scholarship at UWindsor helps to increase the accessibility of your work and enables us to provide open access to this work. Scholarship at UWindsor is now home to hundreds of peer reviewed articles from researchers on our campus and over 4600 theses and dissertations from our graduate students. Optimized for discoverability in Google and Google Scholar, in less than a year the IR has generated nearly 40,000 downloads from users around the world. Open Access methods of publishing scholarly works remove the cost barrier for users and increase the accessibility of author's works. The Leddy Library is a member of SPARC, an "international alliance of academic and research libraries working to correct imbalances in the scholarly publishing system." The library supports a variety of Open Access Journals on Campus, helps support conferences through conference management systems and will soon be able to support the development of Open Access Monographs.
The library has helped the Department of Philosophy at the University of Windsor to launch the first volume in the Windsor Studies in Argumentation Series, What Do We Know About the World? Rhetorical and Argumentative Perspectives.

The search for alternative metrics are being driven by a desire to more accurately reflect the impact of faculty work, beyond the journal level metrics currently available through Journal Citation Reports, Eigenfactor, SCImago Journal Rank or Google Scholar Metrics for example.
Charging authors a publication fee is one common way that open access journals support their operations. In some cases the Leddy library can help to offset these cost of these fees as a result of various content licenses we have with these publishers. This portal provides information for you on where such discounts apply and how to obtain them.
